Standing knee-deep on the edge of the reef, I took dozens of photos of crashing waves. This is when I noticed two giant trevally (Caranx ignobilis) surfing in the wave: when the wave forms a vertical wall, it acts like a window. Prior to the large format, I made a graphite on paper sketch, and a water color composition study (sold) based on the photos I took.
